Goal-Setting Model

Tuesday, 23 June 2015

Good morning everyone,
Goal-Setting Model
A mentee must formulate goals to travel the road to success. The SMART guidelines can help to set effective goals.

SMART
S-Specific -- A goal of graduating from high school is too general. Specify how this will be accomplished. (Study more in order to receive better grades.)
M-Measurable -- Establish criteria for how a goal is to be achieved. Measurable does not refer to a timeline; it means determining a way to measure the mentee's success in completing the long-range goal.
A-Action-oriented -- Be proactive in taking action that will result in reaching the desired goal.
R-Realistic -- Strive for attainable goals, considering the resources and constraints relative to the situation.
T-Timely -- Allow reasonable time to complete each goal, but not so much time the mentee loses focus or motivation.
Here is a great list of adjectives that you can use to describe your abilities and your goals.
Open this link and use this vocabulary to follow the next tasks:
1.              Write a short paragraph to portray your skills, abilities, and goals.
2.              Present it to one or two of your peers, and then ask for their feedback.
3.              Lastly, add the feedback on your blog.

My name is Melissa, and my specialty is an elementary teacher. Some of my professional accomplishments that I had in my past job in my back home included conscientiousness, for example, I put a lot of effort into what I did to make sure I completed my job well and on time. I am a team player, I am so happy to collaborate with other people on the same projects. Moreover, I pride myself in being honest because I believe it is very important to become a qualified teacher. So my goal in the future is keeping working with children.

Wednesday, 10 June 2015

- try to have a conversation on the topic that you are expert on
- most of the words from article through  reading story, book, etc.
- read different text on different topic (use the word wide web to choose the text, or magazine that interest your mind). The more you read, the bigger you obtain the chart of words and phrases.
- pay special attention to unfamiliar word and how it uses ( if you don’t have a dictionary or the internet, ask your friend or guess the meaning of the context from the sentence because all of the word around will help you figure out the meaning of the word)
- write the new word down ( good idea to keep a word journal or some kind of list, you can update and review regularly.
- the word that goes with it, e.g., from one word you can list of related word or belong word, the same word as family.
- collocation: a group of words that collect together in a specific order
- write them down and make your own sentence with them
- fun activities with internet, puzzles or quiz, use online dictionary, or website to listen to the word, enjoy them, write to your friends on blog, Facebook, Twitter, or email, try to express with a new word.

4.     What is a ‘Word Journal’? What you need to do with it?
Word Journal is a small book which you write the words in and keep it handy or in the pocket.
You need it to organize your word in different way, alphabetically by film, group by part of speech, in relation to text, whatever word field.

5.     What were the examples that she has mentioned with the words family and collocations?
(    Examples of word family: If a new word is a noun: support, you can add a verb: to support, or adjective: supportive, another noun: supporter, or maybe an antonym)
