Writing Report

Wednesday's Assignment

Workplace Reports

Write a report for the following situation. Your report should be up to four paragraphs long.

Situation 1
Imagine you work for a settlement agency in your city or town, and you have been asked to research and report on information about services available in your community.

Before writing the report:

• Brainstorm the types of services you think can address the needs of newcomers (e.g., subsidized daycare centers, ESL/LINC classes, walk-in clinics and other medical services, employment centers, recreation facilities with programs for youth or seniors, career counselling services for women).
• Using the Internet, research the services that you would like to write about. Take notes on the most important information. Decide which information you will include in your report.

While writing your report:
  • Draft an outline, including three parts (introduction, body and conclusions).
  • Write the content of your report. Format the information so it is easy to read (e.g., you can use tables, columns, bulleted lists). Write three or four paragraphs.
  • Edit your report and submit it for assessment.
  • Ask one of your peers to edit it for you before publishing.

Report about Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada Classes ( LINC Classes)

This report will help all newcomers learn English and assist them for the settlement process and integration into Canada society.
Here are some necessary information about LINC Class:
  • The LINC program is open to all newcomers who have the following criteria: a landed immigrant, a convention refugee, and 18 years of age or older.
  • All qualified applicants will meet a counselor at YMCA for an assessment before they can start attending classes. Applicants will be tested for their English skills and will be placed into a classroom according to their level and class availability.
  • The LINC program offers seven levels, from level 1 to level 7.
  • Classes run throughout the year, and offered part-time and full-time and some locations offer evening and weekend classes. Most locations provide child-minding services.
  • Students may qualify for transportation assistance.
  • To find more information, you can contact the YMCA at 416 925 5462, or visit at www.ymcagta.org/language.
I hope this report will contribute to your success in English in the future.
